F. James Marshall, D.M.D., talks about his education and academic career in endodontics. He then discusses his experience as Chair of the University of Oregon Dental School Department of Endodontics from 1972 to 1990. Marshall was born in Vancouver, B.C. He graduated from the University of Oregon Dental School in 1949 and the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1959. Marshall practiced privately with his father, Dr. Leslie F. Marshall, and brother, Dr. Donald G. Marshall, from 1949 to 1957. He then served as Chair of the Department of Histology and Endodontics at the University of Manitoba at Winnipeg. He also taught operative dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh and served as Chair of the Department of Oral Histology and Endodontics at Ohio State University. He joined the University of Oregon Dental School faculty as Chair of the Department of Endodontics in 1972 and retired in 1990.
